School Based
Expressive Arts Certificate
We are looking to collaborate with school divisions interested in supporting student success and teacher well-being!
We are offering a full-year program beginning this January 2025 or November 2025. Our training includes online classes outside of work hours, 10 in-school consultation hours for each particular school participating, as well as a 5 day land-based summer immersion at Painted Sky Studio on the Eastern shore of Lake Manitoba at Laurentia Beach, St. Laurent, Manitoba.
We have developed a training program called School-based Expressive Arts to Amplify Student and Teacher Success and Well-being. The first term program is offered during the school day as professional development, and the second term provides an Advanced option offered primarily evenings and weekends, which allows those staff wishing to go deeper in the training to receive an Advanced School-based Expressive Arts Certificate as well as the training hours (200) necessary to apply as an Expressive Arts Practitioner/Consultant/Educator. We are encouraging school teams to attend the first term to provide a more profound understanding of the work and its scope within specific schools.
As a participant, you will receive experiential engagement in Expressive Arts modalities such as film, drama, mindfulness, movement, music, visual art, poetry, and sensory-based play. Our faculty are all trained Expressive Arts Practitioners with long standing experience in schools and agencies. Other learning outcomes include:
• Understanding how arts-based interventions can be integrated into curricular outcomes to promote student success
• Experiencing the ways Expressive Arts foster student understanding and engagement in Indigenous ways of knowing and being
• Participating in Expressive Arts interventions that can address the universal, targeted and specialized needs of the school
• Learning to design developmentally appropriate arts-based applications for wellness at the early, middle, and senior years
Our training is designed for school-based teams including classroom teachers, educational assistants, student services teachers, administration, and clinicians. We are open to creating a schedule that meets the needs of your school. As part of this program, we are also offering 2 two-hour consultations, as well as a 6-hour full-day consultation to allow specific conversations with team members in the school building relating to supporting assessing specific school needs and reviewing set-up, materials, supports, and their scheduling.
We are flexible on the location of the fall term program, which could be provided in person at a divisional office with possible inter-division participation, depending on the make-up of the group. We have various ways participants can engage, so as to support both individual and divisional group participation. Individual participants, without divisional support, would be responsible for our full Certificate tuition. There are divisional rates available for both the first term (28-hour School-Based Expressive Arts Interventions Certificate) and second term (200-hour School-Based Expressive Arts Advanced Certificate) of the program for an unlimited number of participants within a division.
We are very excited about this dynamic offering which intends to support schools in accessing the power of the arts in supporting student engagement, inclusion, and sense of belonging, while also supporting teacher well-being.

Expressive Arts Student from Fyre Jean Graveline's Expressive Arts Studio II
"I am counted among a small handful of folks who were part of the first U of W & WHEAT Institute PBDE cooperative program in School Counselling and Expressive Arts Therapy. I could not have done this re-entry into the world of academia without the yummy goodness that was the experiential, immersive programming at WHEAT. It was what I'd describe as, 'A Scrumptious Education!'"
