Having worked in the social work field for well over 30 years now, I remember back to when I worked as a mental health clinician in northern Saskatchewan in the early 1990’s. I recall one of my first referrals from Children’s Services was a child who had engaged in sexual behaviour with another child. And then that other child was referred, and then there were other children referred coming from the same neighbourhood with the same issue. This experience not only sparked my interest in learning about children with sexual behaviour problems, it became my masters thesis for my MSW. Upon completion of my masters degree I moved to Calgary and began private practice specializing in the assessment and treatment of child sexual abuse for over 22 years. I am excited to pull together my experiences and learnings in this field of study to offer this 4-day course at WHEAT this August.
